Over my 10 years, I’ve mainly ended up working for blue chip companies, dealing with their brands and creating collateral as required, so by nature mainly below-the-line design work, which is where my speciality lies. And as the only designer in the family and group of friends, I often get asked to help out with wedding invites and all sorts of other goodies. So from big to small, I’ve covered them all (no rhyme intended!).
On the side are a few extracts from previous employers’ reference letters, just my little soapbox for self-promotion. A 2 pager CV is available under Work for the more serious viewer.
why freelance?
Well, I fell into it by accident. After having left my day job and finding out I was pregnant, the timing just seemed right to go it alone. Like all graphic designers I'd done a couple of odd jobs on the side, so freelancing wasn't foreign, it just wasn't full time.
I've been able to manage my time effectively between raising two children and taking on freelance work. My involvement with Kidz Biz became more prominent when Petra mentioned she needed a Business Partner for Dubai since she was relocating to Abu Dhabi. It just seemed a natural flow to take on that position, since I had worked very closely with her in recreating and launching the site.
the person
Away from the glare of the computer screen you'll find me with my family and friends enjoying a get together over the braai (bbq to the unknown). And as a mom of two it seems playdates and birthday parties have taken over from nights out and the movies, but we squeeze those in now and again.
I'm also fortunate enough to have an incredibly loving and supportive husband who loves to cook and two stunning boys who I adore, could a girl get any luckier?! Not to mention family back home in South Africa who always have a space for us when we go visit.
